Your Pets on Holiday Cards; Don't Stop the Heartworm or Flea Products, yet; Raising Furry Children

How would like photos of your pets on a holiday greeting card?

It's a terrific and fun idea, and it's free! Lisa Cohen of the Holiday Card Center explains. Though there is no fee to upload the photo(s) and you hope your pets are chosen - and if they are chose, you get some free cards! What's more this program benefits the American Humane Association. It's WAY COOOL!

According to guidelines from the American Heartworm Society, protection should be a year-round effort. As cooler weather settles in Dr. Stephen Jones reminds us that heartworm can kill, and it's preventable. And at the same time you do want to prevent intestinal parasites.

Dr. Mike Murray of Merial talks about the fall flea surge. In fact, it's true, there are likely more fleas in the fall than in the spring or summer. That's an amazing fact...count fleas on wildlife from racoons to opossum, in October and November - you might actually find more than in the Spring.

The funny stories and touching lessons in "Raising My Furry Children" by Tracy Ahrens is relatable to anyone who's ever had a pet, dog or cat. A portion of the proceeds from her book goes to Brittany Rescue, and some go to the American Humane Association. Poor Tracy -- how will she make any money from writing such a fun book? Tracy is a Chicago journalist and writer, who clearly loves writing about her pets. I contributed a story in the book as well, about how one dog changed my life, a dog named Chaser.
