So of course she wants to make everything about herself and not her boyfriend, Dave. And defiently not Bek. Jasmine, loathes Bek and takes every opportunity to frustrate the younger girl. Afterall, what's fun if you can't do that? Rebekah doesn't have a boyfriend. However, there is James (25). They've been best friends since she was two and he was four. They are very cuddly and Bek really adores her best friend. But James does more then that. He is crushing on Bek really bad. She just doesn't see it. They are pretty lovey dovey, and he is always cuddling her and tickling her because she is super tickilish, she just thinks he is being a sweet friend.

Community Hospitals Safe for Angioplasty: Study - Health News ...

TUESDAY, March 27 (HealthDay News) ? Angioplasty ? a procedure to open blocked arteries ? can be performed safely and effectively at community hospitals that don?t have on-site cardiac surgery units, according to a new study.

The study included nearly 19,000 patients who had elective angioplasty either at a facility with a cardiac surgery unit or at one of 60 community hospitals that didn?t have on-site cardiac surgery but met certain requirements.

The centers had to complete a formal angioplasty development program to prepare their staffs and establish policies and protocols, and also had to demonstrate a capacity to perform at least 200 angioplasties a year.

The researchers followed the patients for nine months after their procedures. There was no difference in death rates between patients who underwent angioplasty at facilities with cardiac surgery units or at community hospitals, and no significant differences in rates of complications including bleeding, kidney failure and stroke.

The study was presented Sunday at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual meeting in Chicago. Research presented at medical meetings should be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal.

?The study shows that under certain circumstances, non-primary angioplasty can be performed safely and effectively at hospitals without on-site cardiac surgery,? lead investigator Dr. Thomas Aversano, an associate professor of cardiology at Johns Hopkins University, said in an ACC news release.

Until recently, community hospitals without cardiac surgery units performed only emergency angioplasties. Patients who required elective surgery were transferred to facilities with cardiac surgery units. That changed when new guidelines were introduced by the ACC and the American Heart Association.

?The study supports and reinforces the [new] guidelines,? Aversano said.

Blasts hit Damascus as Syria gears up for monitors

Twin bombings killed civilians and police in the heart of the Syrian capital Saturday, state television said, as peace envoy Kofi Annan geared up for a monitoring mission to end the year-long bloodshed.

"Two terrorist bombings struck Damascus this morning," the television said, adding that initial reports suggested the bombers had blown up vehicles packed with explosives.

The attacks targeted the criminal police headquarters and an office of Syria's intelligence services, killing several police and civilians, it said without giving figures.

The state broadcaster showed gruesome pictures of a charred body inside the mangled remains of a smoking vehicle in Duwar al-Jamarek.

"First pictures of the body of one of the terrorists who targeted Damascus today in Duwar al-Jamarek," a message running on the screen said.

Other images broadcast on television showed a bus splattered with blood and more blood stains on the road, while ambulances could be seen in the background.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said earlier that two powerful explosions targeted security service buildings in the capital.

A spate of bombings have hit Syria's big cities amid concerns that Al-Qaeda has taken advantage of the revolt against President Bashar Assad to shift its focus of operations from neighbouring Iraq.

On January 6, a car bomb exploded in Damascus killing 26 people, most of them civilians. State media said it was a suicide attack and blamed "terrorists".

The attack came after twin bombs hit security service bases in the capital on December 23, with state media pointing the finger at Al-Qaeda, while car bombs in the northern city of Aleppo on February 10 killed 28 people.

The United States has resisted mounting calls from its Gulf Arab allies Qatar and Saudi Arabia for the arming of rebel forces in Syria for fear the weapons might fall into the hands of the jihadists.

On Friday, UN-Arab League envoy Annan warned of a regional "escalation" of the crisis in Syria and urged the UN Security Council to close ranks to put pressure on Assad.

The former UN chief, who met Assad in Damascus last weekend, has ordered a team of UN experts to Syria this weekend to discuss a possible ceasefire and international monitoring mission, his spokesman said.

"We tend to focus on Syria, but any miscalculation that leads to major escalation will have impact in the region which would be extremely difficult to manage," he told reporters in Geneva, according to an official transcript.

Annan told the Security Council via videoconference that he has had a "disappointing" response from Assad so far to his proposals, diplomats at the meeting said.

"The stronger and more unified your message, the better chance we have of shifting the dynamics of the conflict," Annan was quoted as telling the 15-nation council.

The United Nations says some 8,000 people have died since opposition protests broke out last March. Activists have given a toll of more than 9,100.

But the Security Council has been unable to pass a resolution condemning the violence. Russia and China have twice used their powers as permanent members to block resolutions which they said were unbalanced.

Following Annan's intervention, talks are expected to start again on a draft text drawn up by the United States.

Syria's foreign ministry said the country would cooperate with Annan and at the same time pursue its crackdown on "armed terrorist gangs," which it holds responsible for the year of bloodshed.

The government is "determined to protect its citizens by disarming the terrorists and continues to search for a peaceful solution to the crisis," it said in a letter to the United Nations, reported by state news agency SANA.

Thousands of anti-government protesters called Friday for foreign military intervention to bring down Assad. The Syrian Observatory said at least 15 people were killed around the country.

"The people want military intervention, the Free Syrian Army to be armed, and the fall of the regime," several thousand demonstrators chanted in Aleppo, an activist at the scene told AFP by telephone.

Huge rallies in support of Assad were held in Damascus and other major cities on Thursday to mark the first anniversary of the uprising.

Annan's experts are expected in Damascus on Sunday. The United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are also to send experts this weekend on a Syrian government-led humanitarian mission.

The United Nations estimates more than 30,000 Syrians have fled to neighbouring states and another 200,000 are displaced within Syria.

NEW DELHI: Disappointing a large section of income tax payers in the country, finance minister?Pranab Mukherjee?made a small raise in the exemption limit in his?Budget?speech.

Pranab Mukherjee raised the exemption limit for income tax by just Rs 20,000 from Rs 1,80000 to Rs 2 lakh.

The new tax slabs are as follows:

Up to Rs 2 lakh: No tax

From Rs 2 lakh to 5 lakh: 10%

From Rs 5 lakh to 10 lakh: 20%

Above Rs 10 lakh: 30%

Promise to curb black money, major push on infrastructure, capital market reforms and huge subsidy cut were among the other proposals listed by Pranab Mukherjee in the Union Budget for 2012-13.

The revision in tax slabs will give some direct tax relief to individuals, even as eating out, buying luxury cars, air travel, availing some professional services and investing in gold jewellery will become costlier.

Presenting his 7th budget in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the finance minister said the exemption limit for personal income tax was being enhanced from Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 2,00,000, even as the limit for peak rate was being raised to Rs 10,00,000 from Rs 8,00,000.

?This will provide tax relief of Rs 2,000 to every tax payer,? the finance minister said, adding: ?My proposal on direct taxes will result in a revenue loss of Rs 4,500 crore.?

He also announced new tax slabs under which income up to Rs 2,00,000 would be totally exempt, levy 10 percent for Rs 2,00,000 to Rs 5,00,000, then 20 percent for Rs 5,00,000 to Rs 10,00,000 and 30 percent for income above Rs 10,00,000.

For the corporate sector, he said, while the tax rates were remaining unchanged, he assured cheaper access to funds for expansion, even as he tinkered with the excise rates and customs duties for specific items.

He proposed to raise the service tax rate to 12 percent from the present 10 percent.

In the speech, which started at 11 am and lasted 110 minutes, Mukherjee listed a slew of proposals that ranged from social welfare schemes and incentivising industry to fiscal consolidation and sector-specific reforms.

Assuring further liberalisation of capital markets, he announced a new equity savings scheme to extend income tax deduction of 50 percent to those who invest up to Rs 50,000 in equities and whose annual income is less than Rs 10 lakh.

The finance minister started his speech with the cascading effect of the global slowdown on India, but yet assuring people that there were clear signs of a recovery which should see the country grow at 7.6 percent in 2012-12, against 6.9 percent this fiscal.

?The global crisis has affected us. India?s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow at 6.9 percent in 2011-12, after having grown at 8.4 percent in each of the two preceding years,? the finance minister said.

?Though we have been able to limit the adverse impact of the slowdown in our economy, this year?s performance has been disappointing. But it is also a fact that in any cross-country comparison, India still remains among the front-runners in economic growth.?

At the same time, Mukherjee also said the Indian economy was at the cusp of a revival, as agriculture and services have continued to grow at a decent pace. It was industrial performance that was acting as a drag.

?While we do not have the aggregate figures for the last quarter of 2011-12, numerous indicators pertaining to this period suggest that the economy is now turning around. There are signs of recovery in coal, fertiliser, cement and electricity sectors.?

AU Optronics found guilty of US price fixing, appeal already in the works

AU Optronics has had its name bandied about in the courtroom before, most recently in a 2009 group suit where it was targeted for LCD price fixing. 'Course, LCD price fixing has been quite a popular pastime for a smattering of outfits, but it looks like AUO will be seeing the wrong end of the decision process here in the States. A US court found the Taiwanese company guilty in a case that could see it hit with a fine totaling as much as $1 billion. Yeah, with a b. As it goes, the outfit was charged as part of an alleged price-fixing group that operated between 1999 and 2006, but it was the only Asian LCD maker in that lot to plead not guilty. This here ruling comes after LG agreed to pay a $400 million fine in 2008, while Samsung talked itself into an early deal to sidestep prosecution. A pair of AUO execs were also found guilty, but its former CEO L.J. Chen (who is still hanging around in the top brass) was not. We're told that the company plans to appeal -- a process that could last as long as a year -- but that hasn't kept its stock price from sinking in the interim. First comes sliding LCD margins, and now the looming thought of a $1 billion slap on the wrist; suddenly, your woes don't seem so bad, huh?

That?s my story and I?m sticking to it.

In no way am I demeaning the other Horsemen entities that included Ole Anderson, Lex Luger and many others.

I recognize that Ole was a founding member of The Four Horsemen and was an important aspect of the faction?s initial success. Ole was tough-minded, an established star, great on the mic and physical in the ring.

Luger was the new ?It? performer with an amazing physique whose career was enhanced by being associated with, arguably, the most renowned group in wrestling history.

However, at the time that Flair, Windham, Double A, and Tully were together, along with the vastly underrated JJ Dillon, they were particularly extraordinary for many reasons. (PHOTOS)

Firstly, ?Naitch? in that era was generally considered the greatest in-ring performer in the business. From bell to bell and on the mic, no one approached Ric?s prowess.

At the same time, Barry Windham?s in-ring work was virtually on a par with Flair?s. Windham, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Blackjack Mulligan, was a graceful, 6-foot-6 250-pound prodigy who had a succession of jaw dropping, main event performances throughout the NWA against a variety of opponents.

To say, during said timeframe, that Arn and Blanchard weren?t one of the top two or three tag teams in the entire world would be a misstatement as well. Their tag team work was textbook genius.

JJ Dillon had a brilliant mind, was a seasoned, territory educated veteran who not only took care of his group on TV, but he made sure that the four strong personalities were where they needed to be and ready to rock the house.

These are not theories that I have simply researched. I was lucky enough to see these men perform during this era while sitting at ringside and calling the action.

Egypt artists slam university ban of Iranian film

Egyptian artists have condemned a decision by Cairo University to ban the screening of an Oscar-winning Iranian film under pressure from Islamist students who said it propagates Shiite ideas.

The Front for Creativity, a coalition calling for freedom of expression in the arts, said the decision to ban "A Separation" was a "catastrophe that showed "the extent of extremism reached by some students in our universities."

The Islamist students who demanded the ban "must remember that their voice (was brought about by) a revolution that calls for freedom, so it is shameful that they suppress this freedom," the artists said in a statement.

Islamists, long banned or oppressed under president Hosni Mubarak, have become more vocal and assertive since the uprising that toppled the veteran strongman last year, raising some fears among secularists and Christians.

They clinched almost three-quarters of the seats in recent parliamentary elections, and Islamist students have been more openly active on campus.

At Cairo University, the Islamist students who adhere to the Sunni sect pressured authorities into banning the film, saying it propagated Shiite thought.

The artists have called for a meeting with the dean of the university as well as with the students to discuss the matter, the group's spokesman, producer Mohammed al-Adl, told AFP.

Directed by Asghar Farhadi, "A Separation" sets out a deep social expose of today's Iran in a simple story starting with a divorce, exploring the themes of love, lies and honour.

Last month, Egyptian censors blocked the screening of a "taboo" film, "Cairo Exit", about a love story between a Christian woman and a Muslim man, a move slammed by filmmakers and critics.

Under Egyptian law, films must obtain a written permit from censorship authorities in order to be screened. Anyone violating the procedure could be sentenced to jail.

Earlier in February, Islamist students at Cairo's Ain Shams University halted the filming of an Egyptian television series protesting against the "indecent" clothing of the actresses.

This came shortly after the Arab world's most famous actor, Adel Imam, received a three-month jail sentence for "defaming Islam" in several roles on stage and screen.

SKHS grad makes preemptive strike against breast cancer - Blogs

Justine Avery is tired of living with a ticking time bomb. Avery, who carries the BRCA1 genetic mutation, has an 85 percent chance of developing breast cancer. The disease killed her mother Sandy Avery, first wife of Kitsap County Assessor Jim Avery, in 1989, when Justine was 9. So Justine has decided to get a prophylactic (preventative) bi-lateral (both sides) mastectomy.

The date of the surgery, Thursday, has been set for some time. Justine has approached the impending procedure with courage and a sense of humor. A 1999 South Kitsap High School graduate who lives with her husband Rob Sands and works in Seattle, Justine was feted by friends at a recent ?Ta Ta to the Ta Ta?s? party. Her BFFs who put it together ?made a very naughty cake.?

?I?m very supportive of it. I think it?s a very wise thing to do,? Jim Avery said of Justine?s decision.

Justine, who also has a 40 percent chance of developing ovarian cancer, has kept friends and family up to speed with a blog. Part of her motivation in going public with such a private matter is that she has been part of two studies on genetic predisposition toward ovarian cancer, and she hopes to raise funds for the Marsha Rivkin Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Because of the research, high-risk women like her can get free screenings twice a year, something not covered by insurance.

Justine?s raised nearly $4,000 toward a goal of $10,000. That?s not counting about $2,000 raised from the Ta-ta party, with part of the donations coming from the sale of ta-ta-tinis ? two olives. The support of friends and acquaintances ? some of whom she hasn?t talked to in years ? means a lot.

?It?s kind of made me feel at peace with my decision,? she said. ?It?s kind of made me realize that what I?m doing is the right thing. It?s the right decision.?

More importantly, Justine said, she wants to share information with and offer support to other women who may have the gene, or who like her have already been tested and face some tough choices. Justine is not telling others what to do. On the blog, she simply shares the back story of her bold decision.

Her mother was diagnosed at age 38 (Justine is now 31). ?I don?t remember a time when my mother wasn?t ill,? Justine said. And yet that didn?t stop Sandy Avery from living a full life. ?It was always in the background. She was a wonderful mom with a great spirit. The cancer didn?t stop her, up until the last hour. She was a great mom.?

The aggressive cancer spread to other organs, and Sandy Avery died after six years of rigorous treatment. Other family members who developed cancer were her aunt, who survived breast cancer diagnosed in her 40s but later died of ovarian cancer, and her cousin, diagnosed in her 30s, who is a cancer survivor.

After her cousin?s diagnosis, some members of the family were tested for the ?breast cancer gene? and found a positive link. Justine?s older sister, who escaped the BRCA1 gene, urged her to get tested, but Justine resisted, at least at first.

?Maybe to some degree I have always felt it was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped,? she wrote on the blog. ?Maybe it was because I was sick of the anxiety of going to get my boobs squeezed between two pieces of glass once a year and I figured that if I didn?t have the gene, I would not have to revisit this for at least another 12 years; or maybe it was to shut everyone up already?. Regardless, I truly believe the decision I made 3 years ago at the age of 28 is going to save my life.?

Justine is quick to point out that cancer caused by the gene is relatively rare. ?Only 7 percent of breast cancers are caused by a genetic mutation (BRCA1 and BRCA2). If someone in your family has been diagnosed with breast cancer, it most likely means they are part of the other 93 percent. It?s when you see patterns of early diagnosis that you should start to consider genetic testing.?

Justine?s gut reaction to the whole situation: ?This sucks! ? Up and down for sure. I?m dealing with the suckiness of it all. I have a wonderful family who has helped me sift through the decisions I?ve been confronted with.?

Justine outlines the choices facing women who test positive for the gene. The first is vigilance in the form of frequent mammograms, MRIs, blood tests and ultrasounds.

?I am so thankful for the constant screening. My mom didn?t have the opportunities I have. But to be honest I?m getting tired of it,? she wrote.

The second option involves a five-year course of a chemotherapy drug called Tamoxifen, which results in early (and temporary) menopause, cutting her cancer risk in half.

?The last option may seem ?radical? to some: a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. In other words, amputation of my precious boobies, because they will most likely kill me. I have chosen the latter of the three.?

Back to the time bomb analogy, there?s a 15 percent chance that, like on the cartoons, a little white flag saying ?boom!? will pop put of the bomb, all that worry for nothing. But there?s really only one way for Justine to control the outcome and avoid a diagnosis she calls ?unacceptable.?

?I still am haunted by the fact that I?m cutting off two perfectly normal (and quite lovely I might add) breasts for something I ?may? get,? she wrote. ?But here?s the thing, ?may? in this circumstance means an 85 percent chance ? That also means I only have a 15 percent chance of not getting it. I will sit at a craps or blackjack table for hours but I would never play those odds.?

Justine wants to have children and so is delaying a decision on removing her ovaries at this time. She knew you?d want to know.

According to Justine?s oncologist, about 50 percent of women with her type of family history elect prophylactic mastectomies, and about 80 percent get hysterectomies once they are done having children.

Since genetic screening has only recently become more common among families with a strong background of breast/ovarian cancer, Justine hopes writing about her experiences will help other women navigate this new frontier in women?s medicine.

?I am actually the first one in my family who is ?choosing? to do this preventatively. It can feel lonely sometimes,? she wrote. ?This is my way of not only documenting this time for those in my family that may come later, but also helping to create awareness of breast cancer.?
