Spring Communications Internship with The Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC)

Macaulay students interested in both environmental issues and communications should apply for a spring Communications and Technology internship with The Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC).

CERC is a consortium of five world renowned scientific institutions based in New York City: Columbia University, the American Museum of Natural History, the New York Botanical Garden, the Wildlife Conservation Society and EcoHealth Alliance (formerly known as Wildlife Trust).? The Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC) builds environmental leadership and emphasizes the essential role of the natural world in sustainable development. Through the synthesis of research, applied research and education and training, CERC aims to protect biological diversity and cultivate leadership to address the ecological challenges of the 21st century.

CERC is headquartered at the Earth Institute, Columbia University.? This strategic location facilitates multidisciplinary work within the university and with external collaborators.

CERC launched a social media plan in 2010, incorporating Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, The Eco Matters Blog, Google Adwords and several other platforms. The social networking sites serve as both marketing and education tools to: 1) recruit students and executives for specific education and training programs; 2) promote conservation and education efforts of CERC and consortium partners; 3) create a community of learning outside the classroom and field to captures insights, thinking and reflections; 4) establish networks of alumni and partners to engage in meaningful conversation and share professional opportunities.? CERC plans to continue to supplement traditional methods of peer and inter-cohort mentoring in these education programs with social media and further expand these platforms to increase STEM knowledge.?

Macaulay interns will build on social media initiatives to increase Twitter and Facebook Followers, post blog entries to the Eco Matters Blog and cross promote on relevant platforms, review Google Adwords account, make updates to CERC?s website, and complete other related tasks.?

Though Macaulay interns will primarily be situated in the aforementioned project, they may also be asked to assist in other capacities as other tasks and projects emerge.

CERC requires that the interns be paid (either through the Macaulay Opportunities Fund or other stipend) or receive academic credit from their respective institution.? Students will report to a Macaulay Honors College alumnus.
